LO FREQ A GO-GO
audio-driven kinetic sculpture
2025
We dance to rhythms.
Every dance we do uses energy.
All energy in the universe is finite and in a closed system.
As the universe continues to expand, all energy will become evenly distributed, reaching a state of maximum entropy.
In this disordered state, there would be no energy differences or gradients left to perform work, and all activity, like dancing, would cease.
Lo Freq is a live experimental audio performance of energy transference where the low audio frequencies move a speaker cone that interacts with a kinetic sculpture of a robot makes it dance to the sounds, while the high frequencies trigger lights to accompany the robot's dance.
Exploring the idea of energy transference and unpredictability of outcomes, this auto-destructive sculpture converts the energy of high and low frequencies from one form to another between objects to create movement and light. The sounds created on stage move through an amplifier. The low frequencies output from the amplifier move the speaker cone up and down to produce bass sounds. This movement is transferred in an articulated robot whose feet rest on the cone, so when it moves, so does he. The more energy produced by the music, the more energy is transferred to the robot's dance. The high frequencies output from the amplifier are converted in to a low-voltage current that powers lights, causing them to flash in sync with the audio and the robot's dance. If too much energy is transmitted, the robot can shake himself apart or the lights can burn out.
Dance and movement are usually associated with being a good thing, but sometime too much of a good thing can destroy us.
Every Lo Freq performance is different and varies in duration, but always results in the same outcome. Just like life.
